There is a lot of information out there on how to get started with SEO and things you “need” to do to optimize your website that guarantee to boost your rankings. If you’re new this, wow it can be overwhelming. But instead of trying to soak in all of the information and implement it all perfectly from the start, I’d like to suggest something different.
Let’s start by mastering one element at a time and putting our efforts and time into creating the infrastructure and foundation so that when we’ve mastered that, we can go back and really dig deep into the nerdy, nitty-gritty details.
If I were just starting to take my site’s SEO a little more seriously, the very first place I would start is blogging.
Master this list of blogging best practices before getting into anything else super complicated.
First, let’s review the terms and get familiar with the lingo we’re using here . → Blog post
Figure out what words you want to be seen as an authority in, ones that you can competitively strive for, ones that are relevant to what your audience is looking for and come up with topics that are highly related to the products or services that you offer.
Create a solid list of about 10-20 words that you use organically and effortlessly throughout your content. The best resource to help you do keyword research is Google Keyword Planner. Want to learn more about how to use this tool? Read more about it here!
Using keyword research and audience research that use those words to deliver clear and relevant information to help them answer questions or educate them on what your service can offer them. Strategically use those keywords within your blog post title, headings, and throughout the content of your blog post. (Even in your meta-description (link to post) if you’re feeling ambitious). Google will naturally crawl the internet to find your new page and index it into their algorithm. Still, there’s no guarantee as to when they will find it and do this, so a little hack we have is that every time you create a blog post or new content on your site, you immediately go into your Google search console and request indexing. This will speed up the process as it puts your URL at the top of the pile, so to speak, for Google to get to work on. Not sure how to use Google Search Console?
