One of my favourite things about entrepreneurship is the freedom to make my own schedule.
That includes the freedom to choose whether you’re going to work on holidays or take the time off like every other 9-5er.
But let me be honest for a second, even with this freedom … I’m still absolutely crippled when it comes to my schedule and anxious about returning to work ESPECIALLY after a long weekend.
And listen, if you’re reading this and thinking WOW JULES, ME TOO, then please know you’re not alone.
Here are a few things I know I need to do when I feel anxious about returning to work.
Take what you need, leave the rest.
01 A Space Reset
Resetting my physical space allows me to wake up with room to tackle my mental space. I like to do this the day before so that I have more time to focus on what’s going on in my mind the next day.
02 Lots of Sleep & Waking Early
The best way to beat the feeling of being behind is to make my morning spacious. Adding more time into my morning routine allows my brain to fake it’s way into thinking it’s ahead – so far, it working.
03 Taking Stock of My Feelings
Letting myself feel the feelings and notice that I’m overwhelmed while asking myself if it makes sense. Do the feelings fit the facts of the situation? If ‘yes’, I respond with practicing self- compassion. If ‘no’, I respond by allowing myself to shift my feelings.
04 Breaking Down Tasks
By taking a look at what’s on my plate I can break down tasks into bite-sized pieces and schedule them throughout the week while maintaining that spacious scheduling mindset (adding in buffer time). I usually find that I have way more time than I initially thought..
So many service providers I come into contact with are burning themselves out, bending over backwards to get folks to buy into their services and purchase their products, all while totally ghosting their 24/7 passive salesman (their website).
